The Zülpicher Tor is a three-storey tower gate with single stepped arched portals.
The gate was built in the first half of the 14th century as part of the city fortifications. In 1810 the Zülpicher Tor was demolished except for the two lower floors. From 1892 to 1896 the upper floor was reconstructed.

Through Zülpicher Tor you enter the small, picturesque old town of Nideggen.
The gate is part of the former city wall and currently houses a gallery.

Very nice city gate in Nideggen.
Apart from the older Romanesque Nytstor between Burgflecken and the town, the town fortifications were built at the beginning of the 14th century and gave the town with its four gates (Brandenberger Tor, Nytstor, Dürener Tor and Zülpicher Tor) a medieval character. The last three city gates mentioned are still preserved, but only part of the Nytstor. The city wall was originally probably 8 to 9 meters high and was reconstructed almost along its entire length. It encloses a rectangle roughly 375 m long and 200 m wide.
Ten towers were included in the fortifications. On the field side in front of the wall was a ditch in which a well provided water when it rained.
