    Beautiful "entry" to the burg

The knight city and the gate
to the Eifel with its cobbled streets
and paths on which in the Middle Ages the
Sparks flew when the horses came along
pulled the heavily laden carts with their iron fittings. Houses made of red
Sandstone that is found in the quarries
Nideggen was mined, giving Nideggen a distinctive charm.
There are also old half-timbered houses and
the mighty castle with its city wall.
Two majestic city gates, the Zülpicher Tor and the Dürener Tor, have been preserved. It is not far from the castle
Worth seeing parish church of St. Johannes Baptist. Nideggen is a medieval original. Much has been preserved and awakens the imagination
      Life.

        Nytstor,
also called Nixtor or Nisstor, a passage from the city through the old
fortifications around the castle. This gate is the oldest Nideggen city gate, built between 1177 and 1200, still standing today, it is still a purely Romanesque building. It is said to have only been given the name Nytstor later, after the Nideggen line of the Jülich ducal house died out in 1423 and the successors moved their residence to Kleve and
Düsseldorf. At that time, Nideggen was administered by the castle governor Nyt von Birgel, from whom the name of the gate goes back.
