The "Eifel-Blick" are an initiative of the German-Belgian Nature Park
and from Rureifel-Tourismus e. V .. There are particularly beautiful viewpoints in the Eifel.
(There are over 60 of them and if the Komoot team doesn't delete them again, I'll try to collect them all!)
This view of the Eifel (approx. 300 meters above sea level) on the west tower, the so-called "lady's dungeon", the castle offers a distant view in south-northwest direction over the central Rur valley and the northern parts of the Eifel National Park down to the Rureifel plateau.
The west tower mainly consists of building material from the 14th century and, with its large windows, served representative purposes. Inside there are remains of a chimney, on the basis of which it is believed that the kemenates for the female members of the count's family were also located here.
Nideggen Castle towers over the middle of the Rur Valley on the so-called "castle wall", which is the high point of the local sandstone formations. The oldest part of this powerful and imposing landmark (the keep) was built between 1177 and 1190 at the behest of Count Wilhelm II von Jülich.
The castle museum opened in 1979 in the keep provides an interesting insight into life in a castle in the Middle Ages through its exhibitions.
