Uncle Hermann is a bronze statue that has been welcoming incoming visitors since July 2008 at the entrance to Osterholz-Scharmbeck. Her name is derived from an around 1900 living "Uncle Hermann", who worked as a ferryman at Tietjens hut. According to the artist Paul Mahrt, who created the bronze figure and had it cast in the Rieke workshop in Worpswede, it does not depict the historical figure figuratively. Rather, she represents the peat boatmen and ferrymen of her time.
