In 1769, Lüer Steffens built a grain windmill in place of the abandoned grain water mill on the Scharmbecker Lodge - a mighty gallery windmill with a codend and two flour and grist mills. The windmill was 22.5 m in diameter; the mill had a light gear and was only limited in the wind by the monastery wood to the north. The mill guests were the inhabitants of the new settlement on the Heidkamp, the Osterholzers, the Scharmbeckers and the farmers from the Teufelsmoor, who brought their grain to the Osterholz harbor by ship.
