The remains of Ulrichstein Castle, which once served to protect important trade routes, date from the 12th century. At the foot of the castle hill lies the town of Ulrichstein, the highest town in Hesse.
The castle was demolished in 1826, and today only parts of the ruins remain of the once well-fortified stately administrative headquarters. The ruined landmark of Ulrichstein now has a viewing tower from which a wonderful panoramic view of the Hessian low mountain range is possible
