Nara Park Deer

Feeding the deer was brilliant...suddenly there was a whole bunch of them standing around you and you were gently nudged, sometimes not so gently, with the request for more...you had to move away a little more vehemently

The city of Nara is located in the south of the Japanese main island of Honshu and is home to around 400,000 human residents as well as around 1,200 deer and roe deer. Nara's deer and roe deer not only attract the interest of many tourists, but also have a very special significance for locals. The animals have been part of the cityscape for centuries and are revered as sacred by the residents of Nara.

In the western part of Nara, deer run, lie, beg and sleep. In the meadows near the temples and shrines, they are fed and are simply there.
