    Hiking

Nara is the capital of Nara Prefecture in southern Honshu. It has approximately 350,000 inhabitants and was the capital of Japan between 710 and 784. As a result, it boasts many remarkably well-preserved temple complexes, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The 15-meter-high Buddha statue at Tōdai-ji is a must-see. However, Nara is perhaps best known for its approximately 1,200 tame and persistent sika deer, which appear as soon as someone buys their treats for 200 yen at the roadside stands.
