The Nigatsu-do (2nd month hall) is located on the site of Todaiji Temple. From the main hall of the temple you have a great overview of the entire temple complex and Nara.
Once a year, a traditional festival is celebrated at Nigatsu-do, where huge bamboo torches are lit and held over the temple parapet. The burning embers that rain down on the spectators should bring luck to the coming year. These are the Japanese fire and flame; O)

The temple is worth a visit for several reasons:
- fewer tourists
- religious center
- great view of Nara
- it acts as part of an open-air museum
