The former royal estate "Vockenrod" was first mentioned in 1074 in a document that regulated the change of ownership of the place into the hands of the Bishop of Bamberg.
However, the complex probably goes back to an imperial outpost founded there by Franks in the 7th century, which served purely economic purposes. The administration was in the hands of a bailiff, which explains the name. At the end of the 14th century, the town came under the dominion of the Hessian landgraves.

Around the Gothic parish church, the core of which has been preserved, extends in an almost completely preserved historic building along Kirchstraße. In the course of today's thoroughfare, Schwalbenthaler Straße, historical courtyards rise sporadically in the rank of cultural monuments worthy of protection, the construction date of which dates back to the 18th century.
