The artistically designed Renaissance fountain aroused admiration even when it was built. It was designed by Wolfgang Neidhardt the Elder in 1585, and was supplemented and reworked by Josef Claus in 1678. This can be seen from the plaque on the fountain. The fountain has changed location several times, and the dolphins were even temporarily dismantled and stored. Since 2000, the fountain has been located under shady trees in front of the St. Valentine's Chapel south of the cathedral. The water is supposed to flow from 52 nozzles, so it can happen that one of them doesn't work...

Located in Ulm's Brautgasse, on the southeast side of the Minster, the Dolphin Fountain dates back to 1585. Spearing dolphins make the fountain very lively, and the water is fed through the fountain in high arches. A very beautiful fountain in the shadow of Ulm Minster.
