The Herrenwieser Lake is located at an altitude of 830 meters in the Forbach-Herrenwies district in the Rastatt district. The eponymous town of Herrenwies is about 3.4 km southwest of the route, the Schwarzenbachtalsperre (up to the dam) is about 4.6 km southeast. The lake is cut into the eastern flank of the 1,001 meter high Seekopf and the 1,002 meter high Badener Höhe. The Herrenwieser is the northernmost cirque lake in the Northern Black Forest and, with a water surface of just 1.3 hectares, the smallest of the 10 cirque lakes still in existence.
