In the wild:
"A turtle needs 10 - 15 years until it becomes sexually mature. After mating, the clutch (about 8 - 15 eggs) is buried in the mud on the bank, the young then hatch after 60 - 80 days. The pond turtle mainly eats animal food ( worms, snails, insects, spiders, fish and their fry and carrion).
Swamp turtles are the only turtles native to Germany. Their existence is endangered because the natural biotopes are being destroyed. In addition, released American slider turtles are a competitor and crowd out the European pond terrapin."
