Here is the famous marl quarry in the Overbroek nature reserve in Gelinden. They discovered an enormous wealth of very well preserved fossils of plants from many millions of years ago. Many of the plants were not even known to science. Since it is such an important paleontological site, you cannot just visit it. Once a year, on May 1, there is a marl day. You can also visit the quarry accompanied by a guide (on request). Last but not least: specimens of fossils can be seen in the Nature House. From this spot you have a view of the marl quarry (they used it when there was no fertilizer yet).

This marl quarry is a unique geological heritage in Overbroek in Gelinden. Here you can see how marl was formed 57 million years ago. The Overbroek quarry is a paleontological treasure trove of world importance (it is the only place) because of the wealth and exceptionally good preservation of fossil plant species. The quarry can only be visited with a guide and by appointment.
