De Knoppel is owned by the province and is managed by Natuurpunt, in collaboration with local farmers and hunters. Through the land consolidation of Mettekoven, pieces of land were collected into a large patchwork of meadows, orchards and roadsides. The land consolidation ensured that one of the largest standard orchards in the region was planted in De Knoppel. Hikers can walk freely here and enjoy the blossoms and unsprayed fruit. With the construction of the orchard, part of the standard orchard belt around the Haspengouw villages is being restored.
