Hiking
Due to its scenic location Würgau is the gateway to Franconian Switzerland. According to traditions, the settlement may have originated around the year 1100. Centuries ago, the place was called Wircheh, Wirgew, Pirgew, and Birgaw, which eventually became Würgau's current place name, but which, as the name suggests, has nothing to do with "choking."
