    Tips

If you keep to the right behind the Salet-Alm, the path leads across meadows, initially slightly uphill, into the forest. The path soon narrows and steep hairpin bends quickly lead upwards.
The well-designed switchbacks are a bit uncomfortable in wet conditions, as they are mostly very steep and rocky in places. On the other hand, on hot days you climb up here in the shade, which I found very pleasant - the climb itself was very sweaty. Wire rope insurance is attached to particularly steep rock steps, there are wooden stairs and steps and steps hewn into the rock.
After a last steep step and about 2 hours you reach the plateau, where it goes slightly down over the former alpine pasture area, then you climb slightly again and meet the turnoff to the Wasseralm (No. 416).

The Sagerecksteig leads from the Saletalm am Königssee over the dilapidated Sagereckalm up to the Grünsee and then on via the Himmelsleiter to the Kärlingerhaus am Funtensee. The way is not to be underestimated: The Kärlingerhaus is about 1200 meters high. It is practically only uphill, often over steel ropes or kicks secured rocks, which are very humid. Ordinary mountain boots are mandatory, who has sensitive hands, should also pack a few suitable gloves. The climb up to Funtensee takes about 5 hours (breaks not included). When planning you should calculate that the crossing from Koenigssee to Saletalm (about 45 minutes) plus the purchase of tickets (on some days, easily 30 minutes) takes time.

Beautiful climb, but it has it all... caution is advised, especially when it is wet

I climbed the Sagerecksteig from the Königssee to continue towards the Wimbachgrieshütte, over the Wimbachgries, to Ramsau and on back to the Königssee.
The Sagerecksteig goes up really steeply and is quite elongated.
Basically, it is well secured with steel ropes, metal steps and wooden steps.
I would describe myself as physically very fit, the one-day hike was 54km with over 3100 meters of altitude, but the climb really challenged me too.
It was quite a climb and due to the rain it was also slippery.
The tip with gloves is also quite good, as the hands are well strained due to the many ropes and contact with rock.
The markings are good and shouldn't get lost.

The descent from the Kärlinger Haus went over a beautiful rocky landscape and from the Grünsee over the Sagerecksteig with what felt like 20 wooden ladders, 40 steps and 20 rope safety devices. A great tour with spectacular views of the Königssee and Obersee.

I can confirm the time given for the ascent, it took me 5.5 hours to get to Wasseralm, including a short break and snack time, in very muddy conditions after constant rain the day before yesterday. It's basically all uphill, it's not even a walking path for 100m...lol. 😉

The Sagerecksteig is definitely a challenging route that requires good preparation. Especially in wet conditions, secure footing and precise planning are essential. Those who want to calculate their elevation gain and hiking times accurately can use an online calculator like aliciacalculadora.net to optimize their tour planning.
