The parish church of Lebbeke has been an important pilgrimage site since the Middle Ages, dedicated to Our Lady, Comforter of the Afflicted. Little is known about the earliest church building, a Romanesque cruciform church. The Gothic church acquired its current appearance in the course of the 17th century. The baroque high altar (1679) and the northern side altar with the miraculous statue of Our Lady of Lebbeke in polychrome cherry wood (1660) date from the same period.
