Not only the castle park, but also the agricultural and village areas around the Kalkum moated castle are designated as the "Schwarzbachaue landscape conservation area". The castle park, which faces west, was laid out in the form of a large semicircle in the English landscape style around 1810 by the Düsseldorf garden architect Maximilian Weyhe. The park is popular with residents and guests as a local recreation area.

Maximilian Friedrich Weyhe's design for the Kalkum Castle Park dates from 1808. The central element he envisaged was a landscape garden in the English style, which had the typical components of this type of park: visual axes, curved paths, groups of trees and solitary trees. The old castle mill from the 18th century on the southern edge of the park was included in the design. Weyhe also took the existing gardens on the west and south sides of the castle into account in his plan. (...)The park todayThe basic structures of the semicircular English landscape garden on the west side, the northern compartments and the basic layout of the southern kitchen garden are still preserved from the castle park laid out by Maximilian Friedrich Weyhe. In the park, whose terrain rises and falls in wavy lines, there are mostly native trees and only a few exotic plants. (...)The Schwarzbach feeds the castle's moat and the northern castle pond. Coming from Wülfrath, it enters the castle park in the south, crosses it by flowing a long way parallel to the western castle moat - separated from it only by a dam with a narrow path - before flowing into the Rhine north of the castle park near Wittlaer. (...)At the edge of the southern moat there is a small orangery on the eastern wall, which replaced the large orangery building built under Weyhe. It was completely overhauled in 1965/66. A little south of it, the former garden pavilion, also known as the summer house and tea house, leans against the east wall from the inside. (...)
The garden house was expanded into a memorial for Ferdinand Lassalle in 1975 on the occasion of Ferdinand Lassalle's 150th birthday. (...)Source and link to the full article:

The castle park is very well maintained and invites you to take a stroll. The shady arcade is particularly beautiful in summer. The branching paths offer interesting perspectives of the castle. Unfortunately, the interior of the castle is not accessible.
