    As a rare example of baroque residential and settlement construction, the Langersgut ensemble has been a listed building since 1986. The first documented blacksmith shop in the village of Kalkum was located on the property around 1600, and its origins probably go back many centuries.

    From the middle of the 18th century, the property served as a garden restaurant, consisting of a house, barn, stable, garden and field as well as an outdoor bowling alley. The estate was temporarily owned by the Langer family ("Langergut"). The painter and director of the Düsseldorf Picture Gallery Johann Peter von Langer (1757-1824), who came from this family and was later ennobled, spent his childhood here, as did the later renowned church builder Düsseldorf architect Wilhelm Sültenfuss (1844-1924)
