Presumably prehistoric hilltop settlement and medieval castle stables "Old Castle".
Source: Bavarian State Office for Monument PreservationPresumably a medieval castle was built into an earlier section fortification. This occurs frequently in Franconian Switzerland. Ideally, part of the old wall / ditch system was used or reinforced, but this is not recognizable here. The complex has not been archaeologically examined.
Access to the facility is best from the W (other) eg in the southeast, the access to the agriculturally used meadow. Immediately here you can see a step in the terrain, running up to the steep slope on the right and the remains of a wall on the left. The meadow area used to be part of the facility. Crossing the meadow, after a few meters in the forest, you stand on a rocky plateau in front of the still mighty moat of the castle stable. I save a more detailed description of the site, this is great and aptly on Wikipedia de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burgstall_Altes_Schloss_(Affalterthal).
During the further inspection it is noticeable that in the entire critical southern area of the facility the former structures are difficult to interpret. A remnant of a wall about 1 m high and 30 m long between the southern rock formations could be interpreted as the remnants of a "shield wall".
I am not convinced of a prehistoric section fortification because of the terrain. The meadow mentioned above could have been the outer bailey through which the Burgweg also led.
