The fairytale Schwerin Castle was the residence of the Mecklenburg dukes and grand dukes for centuries and is now the seat of the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Embedded in the beautiful Schwerin lake landscape, the Schwerin Castle resembles a true fairytale castle. It is the unique landmark of the state capital.
Once the seat of the Mecklenburg dukes, it now houses the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the impressive castle museum. Here you can admire the living and the representation rooms of the Grand Dukes, the magnificently designed throne room and much more interesting. In castle and castle garden expects a masterly horticultural art and beautiful strolling paths. In the castle café (November - March) or in the orangery (April - October) you can stay for an exciting tour and let the impressions on you.

Schwerin Castle Garden and Castle Garden
With alleys, arcades, flower beds, bosquets, sculptures and the cross canal, the palace garden presents itself as an impressive garden monument with a baroque character.
The palace gardens in Schwerin are considered to be one of the most beautiful baroque complexes in northern Germany. Originally laid out as a pleasure garden based on the French model, it was shaped from 1748 onwards. The centerpiece of the Kreuzkanal, which is adorned with sculptures from the workshop of the Saxon court sculptor Balthasar Permoser, was designed by garden architect Jean Legeay.
According to Lenné's plans, the palace garden was expanded in the middle of the 19th century. The baroque basic structure was retained, while the surrounding area, the greenhouse garden, kitchen gardens and the shore zones were changed according to the English model. The garden was largely spared from an intended redesign into a public park in the second half of the 20th century. Today it has a size of approx. 25 hectares.

Since the state parliament MV claims a lot of premises, the public area has been very limited. However, worth seeing.

It's a little gem on the lake side of the castle. With the orangery, the grotto and the island of love. With a very unique view of the castle and the lake.

The castle garden is located directly on the castle island, which is connected to the old town and the castle garden by two bridges. The design was based on the status of 1857. The central focus was the orangery of the castle. In addition, elements of English landscape gardens, Italian terrace gardens in the Renaissance style and rose gardens were on display.

The question "Do you know how many stars are there?" can be answered in the Schwerin Castle Church. There are 8758 - exactly to the star. They shine against a blue background on the ceiling of Mecklenburg's first Protestant church, the Schwerin Castle Church.
The chapel, built between 1560 and 1563, was modeled on the chapel in Hartenfels Castle in Torgau, which was consecrated by Martin Luther in 1544. The implementation of the intellectual program of the Reformation in architecture and art played a major role in Schwerin as in Torgau.
When the palace was rebuilt in the 19th century, however, the Schwerin chapel was given a neo-Gothic choir that focuses on the altar instead of the pulpit. The designs for the choir with its splendid glass windows come from the Cologne cathedral builder Ernst Friedrich Zwirner, who at that time was considered to be the capacity for the church renovation. The 19th century saw the Gothic as the ideal of church building. The castle church therefore received its extension, even if it did not fit in with a Lutheran chapel in terms of content. Thanks to the extension, the sacred space inside the palace has also been clearly visible from the outside since the 19th century.
Particularly beautiful and eerie: the gargoyles in the form of grotesque creatures from hell, which are part of the filigree Gothic ornamentation. Ernst Gillmeister from Schwerin created the colorful glass windows of the choir.
