Since 1900, the officers' mess has risen picturesquely above the baroque lawn cascade and at the end of the main axis of the palace garden opposite the palace, on the Ostdorfer Berg. The richly decorated officers' mess marks the midpoint between the old and new artillery barracks for the Prussian-German imperial troops stationed in Schwerin.

Built in the style of a Neo-Renaissance villa, the display facade of the officers' mess points in the direction of Schwerin Castle. Its striking detail on the right-hand corner is a flanking tower, the belvedere of which can be reached via a spiral staircase and offers a comprehensive all-round view. The facades are decorated with terracottas and molded bricks. Those above the three-lane, high-stilted round-arched windows show the Prussian eagle in the middle, crowned with the imperial crown. It is flanked by the Mecklenburg coat of arms with griffin and bull and crowned by the ducal hat. In the decorative gable there are further elaborately designed coats of arms.

After World War II, the officers' mess was used by the Soviet Army. The Soviet stars in the iron entrance gates testify to this use. After the troops left in 1992, the officers' mess became private property, stood empty and fell into disrepair. In 2012, the Hydraulik Nord group of companies bought the area and, due to the danger of collapse, carried out extensive safety work. Since May 2015, a thorough renovation has taken place in order to use the officers' mess as the company headquarters. Today, the historic building houses representative, consulting and office rooms.

The officers' mess was built between 1898 and 1900. Today it is, nicely renovated, the headquarters of Hydraulik Nord.
