Bolzano town hall from 1907
At the southern end of Bindergasse you come to Rathausplatz, which is surrounded by old buildings with beautifully decorated rococo-style facades (e.g. the Amonnhaus). The neo-baroque town hall is also located here.
In 1907 the new town hall was built on Bolzano town hall square. Mayor at that time was Julius Perathoner, the project came from the architects Kürschner and Hocheder.
The most valuable and symbolic room is the municipal council meeting room on the second floor of the neo-baroque building.
Here the Bolzano painter Gottfried Hofer created allegorical frescoes that clearly indicate the use of the hall: progress, energy, well-being and culture, the stages of human life, the world of work and criticism in the negative as well as in the positive sense - the latter also decorate as putti butterfly wings and as a winged woman with a snake the ceiling.
