The municipality of Jenesien is located high above the state capital of Bolzano, surrounded by meadows and ancient larches. Nestled in a magical natural landscape on the Salten plateau, it is located at an altitude of between 760 and 1,300 m above sea level. The municipality consists of the main town of Jenesien and the four districts of Afing, Flaas, Glaning and Nobls, which together have around 2,900 inhabitants. These can be reached via Jenesiener Straße, but also by cable car. The cable car was built in 1937 and for a long time was the only public transport that connected Jenesien with the state capital.
Jenesien is known as a riding and hiking paradise. The dense network of hiking trails invites you to mountain tours, walks or even mountain biking. The Salten in particular is a popular excursion destination in all seasons. The largest larch meadow in Europe is also located here. Earth pyramids can also be viewed in the area around Glaning.
