Godfrey of Bouillon (French: Godefroy; German: Gottfried; Latin: Godefridus Bullionensis) (Boulogne-sur-Mer or Baisy-Thy, September 18, 1060 – Jerusalem, July 18, 1100) was duke from 1089 until his death (as Godfrey IV) of Lower Lorraine and one of the leaders of the First Crusade. He was also proclaimed the first king of the kingdom of Jerusalem, but declined that title. He preferred the title, Guardian or Defender of the Holy Sepulcher (in Latin: Advocatus Sancti Sepulchri). He is also known as "Baron of the Holy Sepulchre" and "King of the Crusaders".

Located in the heart of Brussels, in the immediate vicinity of the Royal Palace and the Warand Park, the Königsplatz (Place Royale / Koningsplein) is characterized mainly by the surrounding buildings. These were built at the end of the 18th century, after the original building was almost completely destroyed in 1731 by a fire of the nearby Koudenberg Castle - now in its place the Royal Palace.
The buildings flanking the Königsplatz are built in the style of classicism: their design is based on the buildings of Greek antiquity. This is particularly evident in the columned facades and white coloring.
