The Arnulfsplatz is located in the west of Regensburg's old town north of the Theater Regensburg. The square was first built in 1803 from a large previous square, after the architect Emanuel Herigoyen had completed the construction of a theater and society house on behalf of Prince-Primate Dalberg. Through the theater building, called the "New House", the previously existing, together with today's Bismarckplatz formed large total space was divided, and it created two seats. Today, six traffic routes open into Arnulfsplatz, to the north of the theater, along with a pedestrian passage to the theater venue Velodrom and the driveway to an underground car park. Despite the cramped road conditions, the Arnulfsplatz developed into a meeting place for several lines of bus transport, must also handle through traffic and therefore has despite the impressive peripheral buildings with town houses of the 17th to 19th centuries for pedestrians only a low quality of stay.(Https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnulfsplatz_%28Regensburg%29)

Important trade and military routes crossed on the once contiguous area of the two open spaces Arnulfsplatz and Bismarckplatz as early as Roman times. Here the paths to the west met to a Roman fort at the mouth of the Naab, to present-day Augsburg and present-day Austria. In the Middle Ages, this area lay beyond the city walls and was primarily used as a storage and execution site. With the construction of the theater building, the northern part of the area formerly known as "Jakobsplatz" was separated from the southern part and later renamed "Arnulfsplatz". The city historians are not sure whether that "Arnulf" is the East Franconian Emperor Arnulf from the 1st century, who chose Regensburg as his residence, or whether the Bavarian Duke Arnulf is meant, to whom Regensburg owes its first city expansion disagree. Even today, Arnulfsplatz functions as a traffic junction on the edge of Regensburg's old town. At the corner of Arnulfsplatz and Kreuzgasse, the building complex of the Kneitinger restaurant and the Velodrom is grouped around an inner courtyard.
