The old guild house in Steinheim

The first house on the right (northern) side of Brauhausstraße in Hanau-Steinheim (Brauhausstraße 1) is the former house of the fishermen's guild. It is opposite the Hofbrauhaus, where a small square forms at a fork in the road.

Unfortunately, nothing can be seen of the interesting half-timbered construction, which today is completely concealed. The house was later expanded with additions. The old core consisted of a rectangular half-timbered building. Its basement originally contained a high hall with a free wooden column in the middle. This room as well as the heated room on the upper floor served the guild of fishermen and boatmen.

In the beginning, the hearth of the house was one of the medieval smokehouses that still had no chimney. This is indicated by the partially blackened roof wood. The year of construction 1414 according to the dendrochronology of the old timber also fits in with this. These are again related to the town halls.
