A thousand melodies were to be heard when, on February 5, 1966, Radio DDR reported live from Friedrichroda, the host city of the 10th World Championship in luge racing. The residents and guests of the small town in the Thuringian Forest were able to choose their favorite melody from a variety of music bands, which was then played in the show Thousand Melodies are looking for their listeners.
A thousand melodies is also the title of Kristin Wenzel's work, which deals with the 1966 World Sled Championship in Friedrichroda and tells of the anticipation and euphoria associated with this event.
A thousand melodies can be heard today, almost 60 years later, in the Thuringian Forest on the Roter Weg in the direction of the Spießberghaus, reminiscent of a world championship that never took place. At the same time, with her new multimedia installation, Kristin Wenzel questions the historical reception of political systems and how they deal with defeats and collective disappointments.
