The until today preserved and partially restored Totenbrücke was built in 1857. The name of this bridge stems from the fact that in the Middle Ages in Finsterbergen there was no church of its own, and religious affairs had to be held in Altenbergen, about 3 km away. The path leads through the surrounding forests and to reach the neighboring village you had to cross the Leina, so this bridge was created. If somebody died in Finsterbergen, then the funeral procession, carrying the coffin over the bridge, through the forest to Altenbergen, the bridge came to your name.
