The castle was built in 1546. It served as a bailiwick, an office building and an upper office. When Bietigheim became an official town, construction of the Württemberg official palace began.
From 1506 it was the official residence of the bailiff (Old Castle in the southwest). From 1542 it was expanded to its current size. Burned down in 1707 with the exception of the bailiwick, it was rebuilt between 1707 and 1712.

2000/03 renovation. The castle itself houses, among other things, the city's music school, the Schiller adult education center, the culture and sports office, the Rossknecht brewery and two shops.
