The Sint-Guibertus Church is the parish church of the town of Itegem, which belongs to Heist-op-den-Berg.
Presumably there was already a church building in Itegem in the middle of the eleventh century. The church was destroyed by Dutch troops at the end of the 16th century. The first repairs happened quickly, but did not last long.
In the middle of the 17th century, a completely new church tower was built. This tower also contains the curious "lantern" in the spire. The interior was reformed at the beginning of the 19th century in Modern Greek style, which gave a beautiful, atmospheric result, which we can still admire today.

It is likely that the first church building existed in the middle of the 11th century. During the religious disputes (late 16th century) this church was destroyed to be restored in the early 17th century. In 1653-1661 a new tower was built to a design by Jan Veris. A larger church was built in 1789-1791, preserving the 17th-century tower. In 1885 the side aisles were extended in an easterly direction after a design by F.H. Cox.

The church has two 17th-century paintings and some polychrome wooden statues from the 18th century.
The main altar is in Rococo style (fourth quarter of the 18th century). The classicist style paneling contains medallions from the 18th century pulpit. The communion rail is from around 1700. There are confessionals from 1741 and 1780. The baptismal font is from around 1700.

The parish church in Itegem, which is dedicated to the unusual patron saint Guibertus, has a few remarkable architectural features. The church was renovated for the last time in 1789 into a classicist, three-aisled hall church with three bays. The sandstone tower from 1653 illustrates the austerity of the early Baroque in the countryside. The tower is crowned with an octagonal pear-shaped needle spire, between which is an open 'lantern'. Such a lantern is typical for baroque architecture.
