In the 19th century, these wells were built in stone, a chapel was built and Jonkheer Florent le Grelle, the lord of the Rameyenhof, donated a large iron cross. The big pilgrimage day is Good Friday when believers still come to do the Way of the Cross.

In 1895, Mrs. Berchmans – Van den Brande from Lier donated a Way of the Cross. The fourteen stations were placed in pairs in seven brick chapels around the chapel.

The pilgrimage site is said to have originated when a shepherd drank from the water of a spring on this hill around 1260 and was thus cured of a fever. He is said to have placed a cross at the spring. In 1691, the spring was replaced by five wells. These symbolize the five wounds of Christ. The pilgrimage, which took place on Good Friday, was accompanied by an annual fair. The current chapel was built in 1861, followed in 1864 by an iron cross and in 1895 seven chapels were added, each with two Stations of the Cross. (Source: Wikipedia)
