Tips

  • The Catholic parish of St. Heinrich has existed since 1853 and belongs to the Archdiocese of Berlin. In 1898, the Catholic church of St. Heinrich was ceremoniously consecrated in the neo-Romanesque style with a 42 m high tower.
The parish and the church were named after Emperor Henry II (973-1024), who was canonized in 1146 by Pope Eugene III (pope from 1145 to 1153).
In an air raid on April 10, 1945, the church was destroyed except for the ring walls. But by Christmas 1948, the church was fully usable again, although the 18 m high spire is still missing.
A controversial feature is the interior of the church, which was completely redesigned in a modern style in 1972 by the Dresden sculptor Friedrich Press. In 1985, the new organ was installed in the church and in 2012 the 18 m high spire was added.
