The Marie Curie Gymnasium in Wittenberge looks back on a long history. Founded in 1895 as a private boys' secondary school, it developed over the years into an important educational institution in the region. Established in 1895 as a private boys' school, the school was transferred to municipal ownership in 1898. The main building (House 1) was constructed between 1899 and 1900 according to plans by Wittenberg's city architect Friede Everhard Bruns. In 1900, the school moved into the newly constructed building on Sandfurttrift, which was designed in the neo-Gothic style with exposed brick facades.
