The approximately 500-year-old "Malereiche" was mistakenly made due to a misunderstanding. The name comes from the time when Schwalenberg was an artists' colony. Up here, the painters set up their easels and were inspired by the shade of the huge oak tree. In order to limit the damage, those responsible used the old, three-meter-diameter tree stump and planted a young oak tree and a forest sofa next to it.

The painting oak was accidentally felled in 2004, and now a new tree is growing in it.
Today it is a natural monument and offers a wonderful view of Schwalenberg.
