Here, a copy of the Saltuarius/forest manager gravestone is embedded in the rock. The original was found during archaeological excavations and is kept in the Historical Museum of the Palatinate in Speyer.

A tombstone slab was embedded in the rock here.
According to the local description, it is a "Tombstone of a 3rd century AD Saltuarian".The tombstone of a married couple gives an insight into forest management in Roman times.
The man on the tombstone is holding a long-handled ax like the one found in the Waldfischbach hoard. He wears them as a sign of his authority. As a saltuarian, he monitored an economically used territory (saltus), in this case the forest.
He wears a Gallic cloak (sagum), which identifies him as a native.
Nevertheless, he has himself and his wife depicted on a tombstone according to Roman custom.
This shows that Roman art and culture had spread to the farthest corners of the empire by the 3rd century AD.
