The hiking trail leads past below the soul rock. There are two stories as to how the mighty and impressive red sandstone rock formation got its name. The first legend tells of the forester Philip Seel, who lost his way in the night of September 4th, 1839 and fell to his death. The villagers who found the dead man called the cliff "Soul Rock". The other legend tells of a father and his five-year-old son who got lost on the rocks on October 31, 1875 due to fog formation. Here, too, the father fell, but a faint light shone in the fog and led the son to Clausen, where he got help. However, rescuers found the father dead. They knew immediately that the faint light must be the soul of the father trying to guide his son safely to the village.
