As the Deutsche Bahn began to sell their stations, artists, craftsmen and people interested in culture founded an association called "KUBA e.V.". He participated in the auction and was awarded the contract. Since then, the listed station has been renovated with modest means and mutated into a cultural station. A "little" station should stay (a train every three hours to Lüneburg). The main thing, however, is a cultural center with a program cinema, rehearsal and performance venue for theaters u.v.a.m.

The station Hitzacker is approached every three hours by the RE 35 (Lüneburg-Dannenberg east). In the summer season there are still a few extra trains.
