Well, that's almost like a mountain! After all, it is more than 50 meters up, quite remarkable for the high north and actually a little sweaty. And best of all, there is more! Because at the top of the "Kniepenberg" stands at 86 meters height of the lookout tower, with which you can grab another 16 meters on it and thus land on 102 meters. If it is not too cloudy, the view up here is fantastic. In particular, the view of the Elbaue alone is worth the climb.

The magnificent view from the lookout tower into the Elbtalaue is one of the great experiences of this section. The 360 degree view of the rolling landscape of the Drawehn in the Elbe Heights-Wendland Nature Park reveals a fascinating natural and cultural landscape. The approach and the climb are of course a bit difficult - that brings a mountain and a tower so with him. But it's worth it - you'll be rewarded with fantastic views in all directions. One of my top highlights and a clear recommendation. The location of the observation tower is well chosen: 86 meters above sea level, the Kniepenberg between Hitzacker and Drethem measures, and drops steeply towards the Elbe. Another 16 m, the lookout tower on the Kniepenberg stretches in an airy construction. From the top it allows a wide view over the Elbe and the Elbvorland to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and also over the Drawehn, a 40 km long mountain range, which extends from Neu Darchau 40 km to the south. Those who like to watch birds will be thrilled to find themselves at eye level with a white-tailed eagle, or to watch hundreds of chattering geese on their way to their sleeping places in the winter.
The tower can be reached by bike from the street. You can go right there.
To join the visit of Kniepenberg with a walk, one starts from Drethem; the tower is accessible from there over a narrow path through deciduous forest and hilly terrain on the Elbe slope. With so much variety, it is not so bad that here does not offer a round trip, and thus takes the same way back.
The observation tower on the Kniepenberg belongs to a network of observation towers in the biosphere reserve Niedersächsische Elbtalaue. Other places with vision can be found further south in Langendorf and in Schnackenburg.

Even if the trekking bike ride is very difficult ... but the fantastic view across the Elbe makes up for the effort.

Not one that now has ropes in here, all the man making the capabilities of babies of view storm is picking up that boring elector against that Siedland up the other half. As soon as the grove of the sun did shine up on the doze, so here is the fine hooves ever talking about.
