The knight's stone "Kapitainshuette" commemorates a Prussian captain's hut built there during Napoleon's time. On July 13, 1794, the officer stationed there is said to have saved himself from the French by a daring ride down the mountain.

The Ritterstein marks the former location of an officer's quarters of the Prussian army of the 18th century. Who this officer was who lived there with his wife is unknown. That he had the rank of captain, comparable to a captain of today, says already the name of the knight stone.
