Building built between 1887-98 as a result of the collaboration of two of the great architects of the time: Domènech Estapà and Enric Sagnier. The palace has a marked monumental character, with eight domes reminiscent of Northern European architecture, emphasized by the profusion of sculptural elements on its facades. This ornamentation combines motifs taken from the classical repertoire with others of a modernist nature. The main door is preceded by a portico with steps, which gives access to a hall lit by a polychrome glass skylight. The name of the building is carved into the arch of the portico, above which there is a sculptural group by Agustí Querol representing Moses and the Tables of the Law. The sculptors Rafael Atché, the Vallmitjana, Josep Llimona and Eduard Batiste i Alentorn also worked there. Inside there are murals by Josep M. Sert, from 1908.

In the interior iron structure, the participation of the engineer Joan Torras Guardiola stands out, to create orderly, bright, transparent and attractive spaces, which give modernity to the whole.

The Palace of Justice was one of the first public buildings in Barcelona designed with a monumental character, following the University of Barcelona. It was built on an isolated plot to match the scale of the expanding Eixample district.

With its eight towers and large domes, the building has the imposing look of a fortress, reinforcing the idea of justice as strong and unyielding. The towers also feature shields of Catalonia’s four provinces.

Over 48 statues and 22 reliefs decorate the façade, featuring historical figures related to law and justice. Among them is Moses with the Tablets of the Law, a symbol of divine justice, placed above the entrance.

Inside, the Sala de los Pasos Perdidos (Hall of Lost Steps) is an architectural masterpiece, with a 20-meter-high iron-arched ceiling. The name comes from a French legal tradition, referring to the place where lawyers and judges waited, often pacing nervous
