Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997, for its uniqueness and artistic beauty, the Recinto Modernista is set up as an architectural ensemble consisting of 12 pavilions surrounded by green spaces and connected by a kilometer of underground galleries.

What can you visit?
The visit begins in the Hypostyle Hall, which housed the old hospital emergency rooms. Through the tunnels, you will reach the Pavilion of Sant Salvador, the first building that came into operation in 1916. There you can go through the history of the old Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau and learn about the work and trajectory of Lluís Domènech i Montaner.

The visit continues in the gardens. Walking through flowers and plants you will see how nature was a source of modernist inspiration and a fundamental tool for healing the sick.

What was life like in this hospitable environment in the 1920s? And in the city of Barcelona, what medicine was practiced there? You will discover this by visiting the Operations House and the San Rafael Pavilion, which hosts a historical recreation and the exhibition ‘Patient and Doctor, from Narrative to Objectivity’.

The tour ends at the Administration Pavilion, the most outstanding building in the whole complex. You will be amazed by the different heritage rooms, full of light, colors, mosaics, sculptures and a wide decorative richness.
