The "Tiger-Taiga" at Leipzig Zoo, opened in 2003, is a naturalistically designed enclosure for Amur tigers. It includes spacious outdoor areas with water basins, a waterfall, and a riverbed. The enclosure was designed to offer tigers places for retreat and activity, while visitors can gain insights, even underwater, through glass panels. The enclosure serves for the conservation breeding of the endangered Amur tigers, with Leipzig Zoo boasting one of the most successful breeding programs worldwide.
