One of the most impressive buildings in Leipzig. A huge complex, there is sure to be a lot to do in there.

Former imperial court built between 1888 and 1895 on the basis of a competition with stylistic references to the Italian late Renaissance. From 1952 the Leipzig Museum of Fine Arts was housed on the ground floor of the building and the Leipzig State Archives were housed in the north wing. After the Bundestag's decision to relocate the Federal Administrative Court from Berlin to Leipzig, the building was completely renovated and two L-shaped roof structures were added for additional offices. The Simsonplatz in front of the building was also redesigned and the Pleißemühlgraben, which was previously cased, was made visible again.

@Sachsenonkel. The Reichstag fire trial took place in Leipzig not because of the similarity of the buildings, but because it was the seat of the Reich Court (1895 to 1945). At the time, the Reich Court had first instance jurisdiction over state security matters.

Since it was decided after reunification not to move the Federal Court of Justice to Leipzig, but rather the Federal Administrative Court, the majority of the former library of the Reich Court was located in Karlsruhe, the smaller one in Leipzig: bverwg.de/gebaeude/geschichte- of the building/Reichsgerichtsbibliothek
