The whipping tower was once part of Weißenhorn's town fortifications. At the same time, it also served as a kind of prison, which is why it was also called the Thieves' Tower. The so-called whipping post was a triangular piece of wood on which prisoners sometimes had to sit for days in full view of the public.

Hiking
The Punishment Tower marks the northwest corner of the city fortifications. It was built starting in 1488 as part of the city wall construction. The still-visible, elongated, barred window on the upper floor of the tower represents the exit onto the wall's parapet walk and illustrates the height of the former city wall. A transformer station is now located in the tower.
There was also an exit from the walled city at this location.
