The first Museum of Folklore of Old Liège was originally opened in 1894 in the now empty premises of the Academy of Fine Arts. With the constant addition of exhibits and the renovations in the post-war period, the museum was gradually housed in its current walls between 1963 and 1971. Original quote: "The museum is a physical testimony to the past and present of Wallonia and is unconditionally open to the future of Wallonia."
The area consists of three parts of the building: the former Minorite monastery (built in 1343 by Franciscan monks), the Chamart House (built in the 17th century and named after a former owner) and the Saint Anthony Church, dedicated to Saint Anthony and completed in 1244.
