This highlight shows Bachstrasse in the Paderquell area. The row of houses there is primarily characterized by the Galerie Hotel and "La petit Galerie." The magnificent building of today's Galerie Hotel was built in 1563 as a burgher's house and brewery. In the 19th century, it served as a tobacco warehouse. Horses ran in circles in the courtyard, pulling up tobacco sacks. The wheel of the rope guide is still preserved under the roof.
Operated as an inn and hotel since the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the southern part of the building fell victim to the bombing of March 27, 1945. The father of the current owner bought the ruins in 1949, first repaired the front section, and reopened it as a hotel.
In 1954/55, the late Gothic gable front with half-rounds and the large, pointed-arched, lattice-framed portal were "exemplarily restored" (quote from the Dehio art guide).
In 1991, the rear part of the house above the vaulted cellar was finally rebuilt.
