The museum building, built in 1882 from reddish sandstone from the northern Palatinate, is located in the center of Imsbach and has an eventful history behind it. After 80 years of housing the 3rd to 8th grades of the two denominational schools, its school history ended in 1962 with the construction of a new elementary school in Imsbach.

After it had stood empty for a few years, the Donnersberg savings bank acquired it in 1997 and shortly afterwards made it available to the "Pfälzisches Bergbaumuseum Imsbach" e.V. association for exclusive use as a museum. After extensive extension and reconstruction work, the core of the now listed building was completely renovated and the museum was inaugurated in October 2002. Today we can present you with a variety of relics, minerals and raw materials from the former Palatinate mining industry.
