With its triangular shape, this square is one of the oldest in Mulhouse. It was created in 1826 when the New Quarter was built. At that time, the garden belonged to the owners of the buildings that lined the square; it was about one meter below street level and was surrounded by wooden palisades. It was later filled in and fenced in with a fence. In 1925 it was leased by the city for 99 years and created as a public garden.
